Attending seminars are part and parcel of an insurance agent, but then on 3-4 July 2009, we attended a seminar at Agrotek, Hulu Langat by Mr Tan Hoe Huat on the topic Top Sales. Prior attending this seminar, my trainer had informed me that his teaching has an emotional topic behind it all.
As I was a bit reluctant to attend at first due to language barrier but I decided to take it as a challenge. Bear in mind, this session was conducted in Mandarin and at the end of the day being a ‘banana’ doesn’t help much and my capacity to input all those knowledge was simply disastrous.
However, the session was so impactful it opened my mind towards different directions. Mr Tan managed to create a different kind of dimension to build our skills, understanding between man and women, tonality and etc.
Above all, he manages to create so many positive ideas, positive examples, positive thinking and positive persistence to let us have a different mindset.
At the first sight of Tan, he doesn’t look like a trainer his age, however he has been in the industry for the past 12 years. In his mid forties, married with 3 school-going children, he hails from northern Penang, and has an effective voice that suits an audience. If he is in sales, i would say, he can anytime be a top producer, if he is a Casanova, any women would die in his hands/commands! He is such a smooth talker and if the bad side were to get hold of him, then he would become a conman. This is how I describe Master Tan. His voice is his gift besides the many talents God has given him.
Even though, the seminar was provided in-house, he managed to stir our emotions through S>P>C>A, I would suggest that this was his signature dish and a highlight of the two days seminar. Based on this, he asked participants to appreciate ‘3 most important people in our lives’ and emotions kinda pour out one by one. Tears of senior agents who have gone through ups and downs in lifes rolled down their cheeks as they reminiscent the many areas they have gone through. With the haunting sound in the background and partially dark atmosphere, the eeriness played its part and I couldn’t help but to pour out my emotions as well.
If you are an x-men fan, be prepared to see Gambit live, (pun intended) as he easily flew the cards from one end to another end. There are so many areas that he used to provoke our mind, challenge ourselves. In between the course, he managed to teach us pure joy by dancing. As if the hall is filled with Italian décor, we managed to waltz our way in a circle, partnering the different sexes to dance and switched partners.
Apart from that, the two jokes I remembered until now deserved a standing ovation, cheers to you! I can vividly imagined the wild side of most agents when they cross the ‘river’ by performing a stupendous dance. I realised that when agents were put to the test and being push to their limits, they will do well.
All in all, the experience that I have gathered was valuable and words cannot describe how he sustained us without feeling any tiredness. If I were to rate this training by giving a number from 1 to 10, 1 being bad to 10 being excellent. I would rate his training a 9. Apart from all the activities, the only complaint was the sore butt, having to sit on the concrete floor at times. So TWO THUMBS up for Mr Tan ! We salute you for your success to drive our agency towards greater achievement !
